How to read this — and what it does not cover

Brownfields are not shown on this map. The Brownfield pathway is a third, separate route to the energy community bonus, determined site-by-site (typically by environmental assessment) rather than by a published county or tract list. A site that is blank here may still qualify as a brownfield.
This is a screening tool, not tax advice. It indicates whether a location falls within a published IRS energy community list. Confirm any determination with qualified tax counsel before relying on it for a tax position.
Statistical Area status is refreshed annually. A county can move on or off the list each year as unemployment data updates. ITC projects (§§48/48E) are generally tested at the placed-in-service date; PTC projects (§§45/45Y) are reviewed annually. A beginning-of-construction safe harbor may also apply.
ZIP and city inputs resolve to the county. The Statistical Area result is county-level either way, but the Coal Closure pathway is tract-specific — for a definitive coal result, use a full street address or coordinates.
